CSAMES Faculty Travel to Conference Grants

For AY 2007-08, CSAMES offers small grants ($400 or less) for fulltime teaching faculty, in any academic discipline, to travel to conferences at which they will present papers that deal substantively with topics pertinent to Middle Eastern Studies. Applicants need to fill out the faculty travel form noting the topic, date, and place of the conference and the title of the presentation. Applicants should also submit a budget listing all anticipated expenses and funding committed or expected from other sources, and an abstract of the paper, which indicates the importance of the paper to the applicant's research and/or teaching. Please send one hard copy of all these materials to the CSAMES office, 221 ISB, 910 South Fifth Street , Champaign IL 61820 (MC-489).

This competition is open to all fulltime teaching faculty at UIUC.

The grants will be paid on a reimbursement basis. Recipients must provide original receipts for transportation and/or accommodation costs. These grants are paid from Title VI funds: if the conference is held outside of the US , reimbursed travel expenses must be incurred on an American carrier. For international travel, please contact Ritu Saksena, Associate Director, CSAMES (Email: rsaksena at illinois.edu or Ph: (217) 244-5939 ) at least 45 days in advance. In order to be paid, recipients must also provide a copy of either an invitation letter or notification that the paper has been accepted, or a photocopy of the conference program page on which the presentation is listed.

The deadline for CSAMES Faculty Travel to Conferences Grants is March 1, 2008 . If there are funds remaining, a second deadline later in the year will be announced.

We expect travel grant recipients to give a talk to the CSAMES community at one of our informal Tuesday noon brownbag lectures.
